AREA: Vernon is an unincorporated community in Apache County, Arizona and sits 19 miles east of Show Low.
Vernon was settled by B.H. Wilhelm Jr, who named it in 1894 for W.T. Vernon. It was important at first as a sawmill town, but as activity diminished, people moved away. It was a Morman ward, but they disbanded it in 1954, when the sawmill business finally moved to the vicinity it Lakeside.
All amenities can be found in Show Low about 19 miles west. There is a post office in the town of Vernon and a dollar store at the Y of 61 and 60.
