​AREA: Vernon is an unincorporated community in Apache County, Arizona and sits 19 miles east of Show Low.

​Vernon was settled by B.H. Wilhelm Jr, who named it in 1894 for W.T. Vernon.  It was important at first as a sawmill town, but as activity diminished, people moved away.  It was a Morman ward, but they disbanded it in 1954, when the sawmill business finally moved to the vicinity it Lakeside.

​All amenities can be found in Show Low about 19 miles west.  There is a post office in the town of Vernon and a dollar store at the Y of 61 and 60.
